The Community Interpreter is a non-language specific 60 hour interpreter certificate program suitable for novice interpreters seeking to jump start their career as well as experienced interpreters looking to refresh their skills and strategy toolbox.

The 40-hour program provides general interpreter training and is not specific to the medical field.
The 60-hour program combines the 40-hour community interpreter training with an additional 20-hour training of medical terminology.
Being multilingual and being an interpreter are sometimes mistaken. Being an interpreter requires bilingualism, yet interpreting is a distinct set of skills. Being bilingual does not automatically make someone an interpreter because obtaining the required techniques, precision, and abilities takes a specific amount of education. The Interpreter training program teaches students how to be an interpreter.
Yes! Under the license agreement with TCI, in order to receive a certificate of completion you must attend all 40 hours.
If you want a certificate of completion that specifies medical interpreting, you will have to complete all 60 hours of the 60-hour program.
Yes, in order to be qualified for the course, you must pass a Language Proficiency Assessment that measures your proficiency in both English and another language. You will receive information regarding the Language Proficiency Assessment when you register for the Community Interpreter training, so please register well in advance of the training’s start date. The cost of the community interpreter training includes the cost of the language evaluation.
Once your test scores are assessed, you will receive a signed pdf TCI certificate to the email you provide in registration.
